ORIGINAL’TANAPAG AIR FIELD, SAIPAN M. OIL PAINTING by R. CAWALING PHILIPPINES SCOUT US ARMY. This is a great piece. This painting, and the other one by this artist fall directly into that category. These 2 works are done by one of the original Philippines Scouts of World War 2 when the United States Army first arrived at the Marianas Island. The United States military bases were built in 1944 and I believe these paintings date to right around this date. I have been unable to identify the service time of the artist, nor are the paintings dated so I cannot exactly pinpoint the dates but based on everything I understand about the paintings and the canvases, I would say they do date to the 1940s. Really they couldnt be much later than that as the bases were only in use until about 1960. By the looks of the paintings, they were painted on site of the actual bases while the soldier was there. This is a wonderful view of the air field with all the bombers and other planes. Really an incredible original view. The image itself measures 14 x 21 inches on canvas measuring 17 x 24 inches. The outer 3 inches are painted white to look like a frame. Painting is signed lower right corner with the artists title as a “Phil Scout US Army”. Painting is in excellent condition with just some minor surface grime. Really just an outstanding original view of the United States military base in the South Pacific. A really important historic base in the history of this country. CHECK THE PICTURES ON THIS GREAT PIECE. DONT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY. If you have any questions regarding the work, please dont hesitate to ask. Pictures are an excellent indication of condition. I guarantee and stand 100% behind everything I sell. No reason to open up any sort of cases. Just simply contact me and I will handle any and all problems.
